„U4 Energy” project 2010-11
The European school challenge

 

Az „U4energy Competition” az Európai Bizottság európai iskoláknak szóló versenye, melynek célja az energiatakarékosság ösztönzése Európa szerte. A versenyre 31 európai országból jelentkezhettek tanárok és diákok, hogy megnyerjék a legnagyobb energia-megtakarításért és a leginnovatívabb ötletekért járó díjakat.

Az „U4energy”
www.u4energy.eu honlapon 3 különböző versenyt indítottak, melyek célja volt az iskolai energiatakarékosság ösztönzése, a hétköznapi pazarló energiafogyasztási szokások megváltoztatása. A Karinthy Frigyes ÁMK iskolájából részt vevő csapat neve: „Energy Protectors”, tagjai 5-6. évfolyamos diákok. A projekt koordinátorai: Dr. Kriskáné Gánóczy Anita (Homoktövis Környezetvédelmi Oktatóközpont) és Ocsenás Mária (angol-földrajz szakos tanár).

A választott versenykategória címe:
„Egy figyelemfelkeltő kampány legjobb ötletei és intézkedései / Best awareness raising campaign on energy efficiency” . A projekteket 2011. május 16-ig kellett a verseny honlapjára feltölteni.

Our team in Budapest with 17 members popularized the energy conservation, and increased the awareness of students and adults in the energy related knowledge. Brainstorming sessions were held, where we collected suggestions to change energy wasteful habits. We displayed our warning screen posters, and had an exhibition. The result of the survey of 200 students proved us, that 15% of knowledge must be developed. We held an educational program with the title "Energy Adventure". We interviewed the school's technical staff about the environmental operating. We have made proposals to reduce the energy consumption. We entrusted students in each class to ensure the lights off, the ventilation and the waste separation. The old neon lamps have been changed to new energy-saving fluorescent lamps. Motion-sensing lights have been fitted up in the lavatories. The interactive environmental responsibilities of a waste recovery educational team impressed us giving good ideas to our project. We reported it in the school radio and newspapers. We presented our project to the district leaders, professionals and students which was published in the local newspapers and TV. We popularized pedestrian and bicycle traffic on sport programs. Our projects can be seen on websites of our institute.

Our team aim is to promote energy conservation in our environment. Our job is to raise awareness and paying the attention on the renewable energy. Our goal is to educate people to conserve energy.

Our target groups are children, adults and older ages. The environmental awareness of our students, their parents, grandparents, and the local population has been increased with our project.

List and short description of undertaken actions:
1. We collected data, information, images, and prepared a Power Point presentation involving our fellow pupils.
2. We collected solution suggestions on how to change the established energy-wasting habits.
3. We conducted interviews with the school's staff in order to explore the environmentally responsible and energy efficient operation.
4. Interviews with the technical staff revealed, that the faulty flushing cisterns of the toilets, the water taps, or the seal are repaired immediately.
5. The kitchen workers informed as about the minimal gas consumption in the school canteen, as the cooking is made by service providers who are not interested in wasting.
6. On days when school is not operated there is intermittent in the heat, the rooms are not used are on minimize heating.
7. Brainstorming sessions were held and proposals were put together on how to save the electricity in our school.
9. The posters produced by the team were placed in the hall of the Cultural Centre on screens, which promote the pedestrian and bicycle transportation, the energy efficiency, and the conscious shopping.
10. We made an eco attitude survey of upper grade students. The results show 70% of the 200 pupils live more eco-friendly, 15% adequate and 15% of the knowledge to be developed.
11. To promote renewable sources of energy waste we made a plotting board. The landscape, eviscerated by the human activities and the livable landscape, built on the renewable energy by human activities were presented side by side.
12."Energy Adventure" an educational program was held for the students. They could make virtual decisions in the tasks of the energy production and distribution, and could realize the effects of their decisions.
13. We organized an exhibition with the help of our teachers in the gallery of the school to the district leaders and the local population.
14. A presentation was held to the district leaders, professionals, teachers and students about our project.
15. We participated in the District Health and Running Day, where we promoted the pedestrian and bicycle traffic to the local population.

The proper waste management solves the indirect energy saving. Our team visited and interviewed the Association of Humus in the center of Budapest. Their interactive nature trails and environmental responsibilities gave good ideas for our project. The Humus works in the alliance of 14 Hungarian environmental organizations, their main area is the waste management. Our visit was useful, after it we will propose to everyone to do the shopping eco-friendly, preventing the waste-waste producing. We reported our interview in the school radio.

One person was ensured in each class who is responsible for the environmental system. These students are responsible for switching off the lights, the regular ventilation and waste separation. The gatekeeper role is to switch off the light during the teaching lessons. The neon lamps were changed to new, modern, energy-efficient fluorescent lamps in combination with mirrors. Motion-sensing lights were fitted up in some lavatories, which serve the economical consumption. For the direction of the institute’s manager, the old printers are replaced to modern ones, the cartridges have had refilled, push-button water taps have had fitted up by the management of the school in the toilets, which would precede the waste due to the leakage behind the open left water taps.

We have found during the activities, that the teacher’s help was necessary. The planning and allocation of tasks among the team members was appropriate. All members were motivated and worked enthusiastically. The brainstorming worked well so in the future we will also use this method. The project has strengthened us, it is important to draw attention to the benefits of environmentally-conscious lifestyle. We experienced that working together is much easier to achieve our goals. We will continue to inform our fellow pupils and adults. Our goal is to conduct people in our environment with our exemplary guide for the sustainable consumption.
